MTC Team hopes you had a great Summer and are looking forward to the next few months of Show Preparation and somewhere in the middle of that … Christmas!
We had a very busy Summer holiday of workshops, the busiest we have ever had. Carnival week was a massive success culminating in us winning First place in our Class on the night and then subsequently winning the vote for Best Overall entry! So well done to everyone who helped and everyone who took part.
Our new timetable launches this week and I ask you to bear with us as we settle in to the new arrangements, but for those of you who are wondering, we needed to change the Modern classes to during the week as we could not fit them all in on Saturdays and whilst we were doing that we thought it best to streamline the other classes at the same time.
The show is booked for:
Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 January at The Towngate Theatre Basildon.
Weds 25 October
Sunday 10 December
Sunday 17 December
Weds 27 December
Thurs 28 December
Friday 5 January
Saturday 6 January
Sunday 7 January
Children will be needed all day or part of the day depending on what we need to cover on that day.
Show registration dates are:
Saturday 7 October 10.30 – 12.30
Saturday 14 October 2pm – 4pm
You MUST come along during one of these times if you wish to take part in the show, otherwise we will assume you do not wish to. This will not affect your child’s attendance, as we will all learn the show pieces anyway.
There will be additional costs involved in the show, but we do try to keep these to a minim.
We are also very lucky to have secured tickets to see Lee Mead in Panto at the Cliffs in Jack and the Beanstalk, front row, opening night Saturday 16 Dec Evening performance at a reduced cost of £28.50, these will be sold on a first come first served basis, please let us know asap if you would like some tickets.
A group of 40+ children/young people have spent all week making all the decorations for the float from recycled materials gathered from parents, family and friends.
This is an integrated group of disabled and non-disabled children/young people working together to bring you the float that you see today. The unique project enables parents/carers to have some respite from caring from sometimes severely disabled children, and also allows the children to participate in activities with their peers away from their parents, in a safe and social environment. The dancers have worked on the dances this week learning one each day until they are put together to form the complete routine.
We have participated in the Southend Carnival for many years, and it is an event that the students look forward to every year – with planning beginning some months before the event. We are supported by a fabulous group of staff and parents who willingly give up their time during the week to help the children and make the costumes to make this a project that the children can be proud of.
Just thought I would drop you an end of term letter to wish you all a great summer and to let you know of some dates and events coming up in the Autumn.
Our show ‘Sunshine in my Pocket’ is booked for Sunday 20 th November at the Towngate Theatre in Basildon. We will have a dress rehearsal in the morning and a matinee and early evening performance.
The opportunity to perform in a fully professional environment is something I have always longed for, for our students. The lighting, sound and technical capabilities mean that the hard work of our students and staff can be shown off to its best and we are all very excited. As with previous shows you will need to attend a show registration day where children can be measured for costumes, you can order uniform and good luck boxes.
However, all tickets must be purchased directly from the Towngate Theatre and will be priced at £16 each.
Our show registration dates are: Saturday 17th September 10am – 2pm Tuesday 20th September 5pm – 7pm
don’t forget we can take your old shoes and clothing and use them to raise money for our charity Equal People Performing Arts, so bring them along anytime.
We are now a learning destination for the Children’s university and so if your child is member of this scheme they can earn hours with us. To find out more about The Children’s University go to: www.essexchildrensuniversity.co.uk.
