Equal People Performing Arts have been commissioned to run four ‘One Step Beyond’ Workshops during the Spring of 2017. These workshops are aimed at helping the unemployed get into work, training or volunteering.
Using Drama exercises and techniques, the workshops look at the first impression that candidates give when attending an interview. Using confidence-building Drama games and role play, the candidates look at the positive ways to overcome nerves and insecurities.
We also give advice on CV and letter writing and following up applications.
The afternoon is spent in mock interviews with local employers, who give constructive feedback to the participants in a non-threatening environment.
The workshop days have been delivered by our preferred provider, Mushroom Theatre Company, and have received positive feedback from participants and local businesses alike.
“I found the day very interesting and it gave me some interesting tips and tricks” (participant)
“The day was excellent. I found it very informative and inspiring. It gave me a massive boost to my confidence” (participant)
“An absolute pleasure and privilege to be involved in this project. The first ‘candidate’ was so positive and outgoing that I actually stopped to ask if she was serious when she mentioned being nervous and having anxiety issues! The morning session had certainly made an impact!
So much more that could be achieved with the project if more time and money were available to help these young people.” (local business owner)
A private Facebook group has been setup to provide an opportunity for ongoing peer support. Participants can contact us for more details.

As we come to the end of a busy term, we would like to invite you to come and watch your child’s class next Saturday, 10 December. Although you may have already seen them recently in the show, we are sure you would also enjoy seeing the work that goes on in class each week. We would appreciate a £1 donation to Equal People Performing Arts.
The following Saturday, 17 December, is the last week before Christmas.
Ballet, Modern and Tap students that usually attend on a Saturday morning should come 9.00am – 10.30am (even f they usually come for part of this time) so that they can have bit of a party altogether.
SEN Musical Theatre will have a party at their usual class time: 11.00am-12.00pm.
Students attending Saturday afternoon will take part in free work instead of their usual syllabus work.
Classes resume from Monday 9 January(so the first Saturday back would be 14 January). There will be a revised timetable from January. Invoices for Jan-Feb classes will be sent out ready for the start of term, and all those parents currently paying weekly will receive a half-termly invoice.
Well done to our Singers, performing at the Rayleigh Lights switch-on this week, and to all those involved in making the various items we were selling there – raising almost £90 for Equal People Performing Arts.
We now have TWO wonderful Christmas Hampers to raffle, with tickets available from Reception.
The winning tickets will be drawn on the last Saturday of term – 17 December.
Speaking of Term Dates, 17 December is the last day of normal classes this term, and we’ll be back on Monday 9 January (so the first Saturday back would be 14 January). There will be a revised timetable from January.
Penni and the Staff ask that rather than buying gifts for Christmas, you consider a donation to the Charity instead… the completion of the building means far more than even wine and chocolates!
